How Lomans makes quality & safety visible to everyone in the organization and applies it practically with ISO2HANDLE

"The software is so flexible to set up and has such powerful functions that you can do everything in one system. That saves considerably on licensing costs, which in the case of ISO2HANDLE are not too high anyway."

In 1918, Frans Lomans started an electric light store in downtown Amersfoort. Now, more than 100 years later, Lomans provides electrical installations that enable buildings throughout the Netherlands to function and perform optimally. Lomans still has the character of a family business, but with 400 employees and its own Academy. For more than three years, that Academy has been providing in-house BBL courses from (soon) its own building and with regular MBO teachers. Personal guidance is central to that training and the students are very involved and enthusiastic.

What was the challenge?

Personal development is a common thread and first necessity of life for Manager KAM Richard van Lingen. In addition to personal development, there was also a lot to develop professionally when Richard came on board at Lomans in January 2020.

"Back then, the organization looked at the KAM department as the provider of quality and safety," Richard said.

A healthier approach, he said, was that quality and safety should belong to everyone in the organization and that you would want to properly secure those topics in your primary processes.

"It took time, lobbying and persuasion, but we can say that we are now well on the way. Within every department of Lomans time is now freed up for KAM, with which the quality/safety function has well landed to the various departments of the organization," says Richard.

To professionally manage quality and safety management, Lomans is supported by ISO2HANDLE's software.

Why choose ISO2HANDLE?

"There are many systems on the market that can support quality and safety management. But after a thorough evaluation of all those systems, only one came out that was fully capable of effectively managing both, quality and environment and safety. That is the expectation we have of ISO2HANDLE. The capabilities of the platform seem unprecedented.", states Richard.

"The software is so flexible to set up and has such powerful functions that you can do everything in one system. That saves considerably on licensing costs, which in the case of ISO2HANDLE are not too high anyway."

"What also helps tremendously is that with ISO2HANDLE, you don't have to buy additional modules when you're just getting started. You just get all the functionality for one fair price. You can make as much or little of it as you want. And where you need help setting up specific customizations, ISO2HANDLE is always there to help you quickly."

What did that choice accomplish?

The first meters have been made and a solid basic system set up. After a thorough process optimization, all new processes were made transparent to everyone in the organization via the software.

Asset management is expected to be professionalized through the ISO2HANDLE platform in the coming months. Issue and intake as well as maintenance, repair and inspection will then be managed through the software. This will save an enormous amount of manual work and no more issues will be overlooked.

Via a link with the existing ERP system, a risk analysis will soon be performed automatically for each phase of a newly acquired project. For each risk identified, the system will encourage specific employees to take and record their control measures. Thus, a super effective module for risk management has been set up. Risks are identified the moment they arise and immediately placed in the right place in the organization for mitigation, with their handling also automatically monitored.

How easy was it to set up the ISO2HANDLE?

"Because the system has endless possibilities, the learning curve can be called steep, especially in the beginning. Fortunately, good help from ISO2HANDLE is always nearby. Meanwhile, the first steps have been taken and we will expand by setting up various APIs to retrieve information from other applications," says Richard.

The coming time is reserved for prioritizing processes and involving and training ICT people so that they have a better understanding of ISO2HANDLE's functionality and capabilities.

All in all, it is a "work in progress" and Lomans is well on its way.
